The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in utilizing video review technology.
Replay technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.
Athletes are granted the right to challenge certain calls made by the chair umpire, mirroring the system already in operation at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
The new system will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles matches.
This development comes just a season following the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which brought an end to the centuries-old role of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors cannot to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the official to review other situations, including:
- If a ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or body on the way past.
- Potential hindrance end of a point.
Notably, there is no limit on the number of challenges a player can initiate.
Practical Application
A recent example took place in a recent tournament last week, where a top player used the review system against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but thought his opponent had "played the rules quite well."
The umpire watched a video and determined Draper was responsible for hindrance, awarding the point to his opponent.
Growing Trend
This technology aren't new for major tournaments. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the ATP circuit will have the system in place at every one of its events.
Further Updates
A further innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves instances where the crowd have occasionally been unsure if a shot was in or out.
In other news, with exactly a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have further announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
